non-law graduates should be required to sit a diploma course, be it a year or two years in the Law Society, as is done with those in a similar position attempting to do the King's Inns exams. This is undeniable.
the "easy access" being the ability for any individual with a degree to sit the fe-1s is definitely a factor in the sheer numbers of those sitting the fe-1s. If the law society were to bring in a regulation, such as, all those that sit a 3 year undergrad (or it's postgrad equivalent) and achieve at 65% average or higher in their degree, etc etc, achieve some exemptions, I am sure there would be NO up roar as you state. In fact the majority of law students would love the chance to avoid the mess that are the fe-1s.
