Hmmm! We had a FeLV+ guy (Leo) who couldn't meow (very well, anyway)! We thought he was such an angel on the 2+ hour drive from Dallas to Houston because we never heard a peep out of him...turned out, he just couldn't meow very well! :) He kinda squeaked (hence his nickname, "Squeaky Boy"... :)
I always thought that the "meow" was something that was reserved for people! Cats don't generally meow to each other...I've noticed that they communicate through a kind of guttural "purr"...almost like the sound we make when we roll our tongues! My guys will call to each other that way...there's kind of an intonation at the end that sounds like they're asking a question, like, "Hello? Where is everyone?" :) Lucy (our mom cat) would also make that sound when the kittens were a little older...they'd sleep in one spot and she'd sleep elsewhere...but when she decided that it was time for them to nurse, she'd stand outside the closet door and do that little guttural purr...the kittens would then march out of their hiding spot to nurse! Hmmm...That's really fascinating to me...I wonder if the meow is something that's learned, like from a mom to a kitten as to how to communicate with people? Just a thought! BTW, Jill, I LOVE the name "Gary"!! Spongebob has to be one of my all-time favorite cartoons! :) Jen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mackenzie, Kerry N." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 3:07 pm Subject: RE: FeLV+ with URI : improving (maybe)!! > Hi Jill > You've just struck a chord with me.
