I believe that she is referring to the relative lightness and darkness of
the colors or what is called `value' on a 10 value scale, white is 0 and
black is 10 and the individual colors at full intensity fall somewhere in
between, as she said, yellow is 2, violet is 8 or 9, red and blue are 5.
make sense? a light value color will look more intense against a dark value
color. The you also can modify colors by graying them or cutting the
intensity by adding a complimentary or a gray. You would usually do this
when dyeing fibers or by placing colors of yarn together in a weaving. Can
also blend the colors of fiber before spinning. Dale
