Yes, but the point was in figuring relative amounts of each color to be used in a project. So, a piece with a low-value purple and a high-value yellow would need to have relatively about 4.5 more times more purple than to be visually pleasing. At any rate, that was the theory :) Of course it can be exploded in all directions--as in a beautiful print fabric I once had, where the main color was a medium value balanced yellow, with sprinkles of little medium dark value purple flowers. But if a person has very little confidence in being able to choose combinations, this theory offers a guide that's quite workable.
