I am knitting a mobius scarf of odd balls of natural dyed wool. I love the different colors going at it like a hillside in the fall. My husband wishes I used just the reddish hues or just the blueish hues and my daughter agrees with him. It made me realize when my daughter gathers a bouquet of flowers they all match somewhat but I make a point of having the whole color wheel represented including white.
Now I am worrying about the shawls I plan on weaving with long warp stripes of many colors. I plan on using a nuetral soft walnut brown for one weft and a blue that is also in the warp for the other weft. They are meant for gifts (any Christmas now.....ggg). Is there a ratio of clash to matching colors in color theory? While I use many colors I will leave one color out, like go from brick red to navy, or olive green to purple. I have been thinking of dyeing roving in the rainbow and then over dyeing with a weak blue or red or brown. I did this with blue but haven't spun it yet...
