Yes, there is, but whether I can find it is another question :) It's based on the value of the hue in question. The higher the value, the less you use. I think yellow is assigned a 2, while purple is 9; orange and green 3, etc, or something like that. I'll have to see where I stuck that note. I find that a near-neutral weft works to pull all the brights together, mutes them, and makes the whole quite subtle and lovely. I make my near-neutral handspun wefts by carding all the colors of the warp together, allowing one color to dominate to some extent. Or, if my overall color scheme is analogous (3 or 4 hues which are side-by-side on the color wheel, like green-blue-purple), I spin the same yarn for warp and weft sometimes.
