Almost all my warm projects are sweater. One rather plain with a bold stripe of garter stitches across the chest, knitted with US size 11 needles in dark grey shades for a friend of mine. Heavy thing. I hope it's warm enough for her. ;o) Two of the same shape and pattern (see Alice Starmore's "Celtic Collection": Cromarty) for my husband an me, but his will be of grey virgin wool, mine of mudbrown kid mohair. I don't like sweaters full of holes, even if they are knitted in - anything warm should have a dense surface, in my opinion. The mohair-sweater would be a nice contrast: heavy cables and interlocking lines done in fine fluffy yarn. I can't await starting it. I started on another mohair sweater in copper - but this time _with_ holes in it. The patterns are big cables at the sides and diagonal stripes that interlock in the middle. It looks wonderful, but I wouldn't wear it outside! If there's a bit of time, I sit down to spin pure white mohair for a shawl project. I don't know if I'm going to dye the fiber or not. The book with the pattern hasn't arrived jet, though I've ordered it 6 weeks ago. Must get it every day. Your discussion of spinning buffalo and Amy's mentioning of punis leads me to lots of new ideas on blending (colors as well as fibers) and knitting. I made a blend of colored wool with mohair, then blended the 5 solid colors and got a nice fuzzy green-blue yarn to be knit into socks. I'm curious how they would wear.
