As a librarian, I had to put in my 2 cents about your
small town library not offering interlibrary loan. 
First of all, it opened up my eyes - I honestly didn't
realize that this would be the case in small
libraries.  But on the other hand, it makes sense. 
ILL is a very expensive service, and I can see that
some libraries simply could not afford to offer it. 
However, your librarian should have referred you to
another way to get loaned books, if such a way exists
for people in your area or state.  

Re finding unusual books to buy, has anyone mentioned
www.addall.com - it simultaneously searches several
databases for used books.
