I certainly don't mind articles on basic subjects aimed at beginners
or less experienced readers.
What I DO mind, is when these articles ARE dumbed down.
Also, what incentive is there for a beginner to progress when more
"in depth" coverage is missing???
I have held conversations with contributors about their experiences
- and they complained bitterly that they were asked for "simple drawings"
rather than properly formulated text, and that any attempt to put
depth into articles was rejected.
I also notice that in the current crop of publications ("Weavers
Craft" excepted) there is an emphasis on corporate marketing and
package deals "all from one hand" that wasn't always there.
Fiber arts is an area where there are lots of independent creators
who are not always thrilled with A. an article for something really
trendy and simple that B. is available in kit form C. from a preferred
vendor.
(AND said project is usually referred to with terms such as "luxury",
"must have" etc. to assist in drumming up business.)
