Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone has suggestions on the spinning methods that
improve yarn's elasticity. I specify methods/techniques, because I spin a
wide range of fibers, from kid mohair and alpaca to cashmere longwools,
Merino, and corriedale and I don't expect much elasticity from some, but
think the yarns I spin with Merino, corriedale, or Targhee should have more
elasticity than they do. I've even compared my alpaca to that spun by
another person from the same herd and her yarn is more elastic than mine. I
do get elesticity with corriedale (processed by me) and a longwool blend
(from a mill), but I find I have difficulty getting the corriedale to be as
smooth and consistent as I would like (Though, adjustments to my preparation
before spinning has helped this a lot).

I suspected the elasticity problem had something to do with the uptake
tension, but so far, varying with that hasn't produced the results I'm
looking for. I've looked in Alden Amos, In Sheeps' Clothing, and other
spinning books, but haven't found the key. Since elasticity is one of the
cardinal characteristics of wool, perhaps writers don't feel it needs
addressing. But I need help.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Jess
