in New Zealand where the climatic conditions are probably very different from other countries due to the fact that you can be at the seaside even from the furthest inland area in less then 3hrs by road.
after I read this onlist just now I realised I could probably be 1/4 way to Aussie from where I personally live in the narrow isthmus of the Auckland region. I can't remember how long it is to walk across from Manukau/Indian Ocean to Waitemata/Pacific but maybe I should try to set that as target walk sometime in this now re-formed fitness personage. I know there is a walking guide on the matter for tourists.......

this a map of all of the North Island and if you click on the *red* square on Map size you will go up a fraction in size [that url is way to long] - the 2nd large *red* dot down from the top is the area I live in - you will probably notice a bit of water around us there. Plus note we have 21 extinct volcanoes to climb up and down :-)
