Sorry Cathy ,, you have NOT offended me at all , sorry if i Sounded
[=read] a bit Strong, about it.
The framing OR not framing Issue ,,, has been Debated in many places.
So maybe i lost my patience about it, a bit, These days as i am working on
my own art, writing a historical book [ Not fiber related], Curate a new
exhibition [ March 2006],Etc,,,,. Discuss piles of textilic and artistic
questions with people. Just a month ago i went to an opening and Almost
Faithed when i saw how some wonderful original delicate textilic works .
Lost all their qualities, by Crude wrong framing.... It was horrid.
Luv=ckily i was not the only one schocked and somebody Rudely asked the
artist about those frames, And Alas she said ,, "that the Frames were
there to make the point That these were art works and not rags on the
wall". This answer Bugged me even more, The Gallery owner later told me
she opposed the frames, i told her she should have insisted .... Ah well ,
My bit strong answer to you , was maybe a reaction to my feeling that we
should already have been over this problematic discussions.
We should realize we as textile artists have Textilic ways. IF we frame we
should Know why and how ??
When one makes a fiberart piece one should INCLUDE the Displaying method
in his/her Plannings when thinking about the work , and not leave that to
the end. Dispaly manner should be an Intergal part of the work , not an
imposed Convenient solution for the Galery`s or Museum`s needs.
The artist Should Take the time to Think about this problem.
Don`t feel sorry you joined in the discussion , after all we all learn
from each other ,,, i have learned most my Anti- Pro framing ideas from
Students and pupils , some od whom were geniuses in solving it...

I live on a mountain about 257 over sea level , and can walk down the

But i lived in Boston USA , Mancherter UK , and regulary visit
Belgium. Thus have Felt all knids of climates.
Ps I had a work that came back from an Exhibition reeeeeeking of
cigaret Smoke, took long to work it out . MY colleague who had her
work framed in heavy glass etc,,, Had the same Stink, and as it was
glased in it took her longer to work it out ,,, I washed and aired my work
, she aired it , without relief , took it apart, than realized that the
wooden frame and matting also were STINKING ,,, only after washing and
long airing did this go away ,, at times she swears it hasn`t completely
dispapeared in her work ,, while mine has a fresh Shampoo smell ...
