Thanks, Robin, for the link to the index. Unfortunately, the article
I'm looking for is not listed. I don't know if they missed it or what.
I KNOW I saw it, in a Handwoven, because I showed Zack :) And I quit
subscribing to Handwoven a couple years ago, so it's not in 2005, which
isn't in the index yet. And, having just returned from my magazine
stash, I find the fine threads article listed is not only not in
Spin-Off any time in 96, it's also not in Handwoven any time in 96.
I have learned yet again it's faster to warp and thread fresh each time
than to tie onto a dummy warp. It's been taking HOURS longer to wind
this warp on because of all the uneveness in the tieing process--I have
to comb every inch several times over. The trapeze helps, once the warp
is combed, but 448 ends x 11.5 at yards takes a LONG time to comb. The
next (yippeee, LAST) warp for this project will be threaded from
scratch, and I bet I have it on the loom and ready to weave in less than
half the time.
I did divide this last warp into two sections and have weighted them
separately. It's not great--the two weights are almost more than I can
wind on, even though they only total 5 pounds (plus, of course, the
weight of the warp, and the resistance of all those threads going
through raddle, reed, lease sticks, and heddles). I don't know yet if
it will make the selvages better, or just leave them tight, and tighten
the center as well.
