After long storage, textiles can show brown stains that once didn't show
after laundering.
They could be just about anything.
I found such stains on my wedding dress years later that, when I thought
about it, were food spills from wearing it that appeared to have been
removed at the cleaners.
Try laundering, possibly hanging in the sun for a while, the newer
non-chlorine bleaches.
If all else fails, I'd go for tea dying rather than use aggressive methods
and wreck them.
