The water driven hammer mill for fulling has been in existence since the
early middle ages - in most of Europe. Felted wool clothing protects against
the elements well - making excellent coating and blankets.
The cold mangle is for compacting the finished cloth. it is also used on
linens to bring up the sheen, and in the case of damask, the pattern.
