Wow! Lots of negatives on angora. Again, I had French and English.

Has anyone used handspun pure angora as warp or weft?

I wove 100% angora handspun scarves with 2-ply warp always (never singles because of strength and the abrasion, as already mentioned), and either 2-ply or singles for weft depending on what outcome I wanted.

Ulrike - "The angora typical halo doesn't come on its own..."

I got more of an initial halo with the French because of the stronger and greater number of guard hair typical of the French (which is what also gives the French its deeper color). I never brushed my finished items because I also found that with use, the halo will appear on its own over time.

Robin S - "I haven't used actual angora but rather a (gasp) synthetic... The fuzzy warp sticks to itself... I will never weave with a fuzzy warp again."

I've never experienced this with my angora. Perhaps natural vs. synthetic is the cause? My angora was very slick, not sticky. The only issue that I've had with fuzzy yarn was mohair when winding the bobbin. The long fuzz hanging off the yarn wound itself around the bobbin and tangled with the more fuzz. That particular yarn would've done better wrapped on a stick shuttle. But again, never had issues with the angora.

I love my angora scarves. My kids love their angora scarves. I have also blended my angora with my merino and alpaca. Beautiful results!

Have fun with it, Holly!!
