He's not likely to be allergic to the FIBER, as it's the same protein, keratin, that's in his own hair and finger/toenails.

He *might* be allergic to:

dander from the original animal--fairly common
chemicals used in processing the fiber

Sometimes these things can be washed out, though not always. I'm "allergic" to angora that hasn't been washed. Once it's washed, it's fine. Probably the actual allergy in my case (in the form of sneezing, sinuses getting stuffed, then having to blow the nose very frequently, and itchy eyes) is to dander, because not all angora fiber causes this reaction.
