This gets back to the age-old comeback on this list, whenever anybody asks a question as to why something normal doesn't work: Why would you want to do that?

I use percussion maps so I can get proper playback, and would like to be able to place quarter notes, half notes and whole notes on a percussion staff. It seems to me that I recall it working in previous versions.

But asking "why would you want to do that" really does nothing to solve the problem.

Well, obviously those are notated with standard noteheads, not X-noteheads. Since you are evidently using standard noteheads, I don't understand why you are bothering with a percussion map -- is it just for playback reasons?
