This gets back to the age-old comeback on this list, whenever anybody asks a question as to why something normal doesn't work: Why would you want to do that? No. Percussion maps have always allowed only two types of noteheads -- open and closed. They have never supported proper whole note noteheads, which is why you shouldn't use them with pitched percussion. I agree that this is a problem.
I use percussion maps so I can get proper playback, and would like to be able to place quarter notes, half notes and whole notes on a percussion staff. It seems to me that I recall it working in previous versions.
But asking "why would you want to do that" really does nothing to solve the problem.David, I didn't ask "why would you want to do that" (i.e., get proper whole notes on a percussion staff) but "why are you doing it that way?". I also suggested several workarounds.
