Agreed! I seem to recall it was introduced back in the Finale 2.0 or so days when it was necessary because of slow redraws. How disappointing that thirteen years later, we're back in the same boat. Finale is one of the only applications I can think of in which each new version is fundamentally and signficantly slower than the one before (maybe Word is another example). I'm running a G4 800 MHz and 2004 OSX is close to unusable for large orchestral scores. Why would they get rid of a feature which helps? What's the point? Is it a technical issue? The only good thing about all of this is it's forcing me to stick with Finale 2002 running in OS 9 on my current computer - solves the GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) temptations with the G5s.
