If screen redrawing were instantaneous, the removal of the feature 
would not be a problem, right?

I'm with Dennis on this: Finale's screen handling has always been 
archaic, more like what we were accustomed to in the mid-80s than 
what we see in modern programs (even graphics and publishing 
programs).
