I've had the same problem in the past as Charles Small is experiencing. I've always compromised by having various text boxes overlapping, to place the notation characters where they need to be. In complicated situations, I'd arrange the items in MS Publisher, and export the whole item as a graphic and import to Finale.

I consider it both a shame (for Finale and its reputation) if it's necessary to use a different font because it shows a limitation in the software, and a shame (in presentational terms) that there is no coherence between the music on the staves and the notation above or below them.

I'd not come across the Bach font before - thanks for the suggestion, googling for Bach Font will get you there - and it looks fine for conservative scores, but not for anything else.

Hello, How do I sensibly incorporate an occasional # or b or natural, or mP or mF for that matter, in a paragraph of text (in a text block)?
The required symbols are there in whatever music font (Maestro, say) but-- for reasons I don't understand-- getting a # the correct size to match 12 or 14 point text means using 24 point Maestro, which of course messes up the line spacing somethin' awful.
There's got to be an easy way to do this... what is it??

Don't use a notation font. there is a font available for free download, called, IIRC, "Bach", which has the symbols in proper size and orientation to be used in a paragraph of text.

I used to have it, but it was a couple of hard disk failures ago; haven't needed it, and haven't downloaded it again.
