The easiest way to do what Charles wants to do, with the fonts he already has, is to specify an exact line spacing (instead of relative spacing like single spacing, double spacing, etc.). For instance, if you are dealing with a 12 pt. text font, make the line spacing exactly 14 pts. Then you can insert a sharp or flat or any other musical character in 24 pt. Maestro and the line spacing will remain unaffected.

Obviously, if this causes the Maestro character to actually collide with the text above or below, you will need to specify a larger number for the line spacing, but if you just need accidental characters, a line spacing of 14 pts. for a 12 pt. text font is usually fine.
