I consider it both a shame (for Finale and its reputation) if it's necessary to use a different font because it shows a limitation in the software, and a shame (in presentational terms) that there is no coherence between the music on the staves and the notation above or below them.
This is actually a pretty silly request. The Finale fonts have, like most other music fonts, certain characteristics, including a standardized size, and a base line which goes through the middle of many of the symbols. That's a requirement, as only this makes it possible for Finale to use most other music fonts on the market, including Opus (from Sibelius) or Sonata. It is simply impossible to have the same characteristics while making the font also usable as text fonts, which they are not designed to be.
Fair point. I guess what I'm hankering after is an adaption of the Finale fonts which *are* usable as text fonts.
What's wrong with using the Bach font?
It's not the same! Maybe I'm being petty or overly-fussy, but I want all of the symbols on the page to look identical - the accidentals in the Bach font are very different to any in a regular font. To my eye, using these as suggested would look sloppy.
