This something I have requested many times. Since we have Font annotations to track the very limit of every musical character, it would be possible to take it into account in some kind of vertical spacing of systems, finding the most elegant layout. SCORE has this feature for decades now and I don't think any other music typesetting tool can do that. Instead of being chasing after the features of Sibelius, this is an original idea that could make Finale stay ahead.

I don't know if many of you have seen the new features of Sibelius 3, but there is a very interesting feature in the spacing of music containing rhythms that are crossing vertically and doing some ugly spacing in Finale (pre Sibelius 3 too). see http://www.sibelius.com/products/sibelius/3/notationengraving.html . When tuplets of different kinds, eight and shorter notes are vertically aligned, it does look uneven. I would like to see that kind of improvement in the spacing capabilities of Finale.

You may be right about how Finale develops from now on, but I see plenty of areas for improvement.

1) Take spacing for instance. We now have tools for horizontal spacing and can tweak them quite extensively. Get them set up right and most of the time we don't have to fiddle with individual items. But what about giving the program vertical spacing smarts as well? This is currently a very time consuming part of layout.
