I don't know what Eric does, but I use PageMaker all the time to prepare
books. Many of them are instructionals, where the publisher will add a title
page, for example, and there will be lots of text; others will add
photographs. I can play with the layout of the book in PageMaker - changing
text styles, sizes, on a global basis if for example, I need to reduce the
page count, or if the author or publisher suddenly wants to use a different
typeface for song titles. Imagine doing this in Finale! PageMaker is a very
adequate book-making program, despite the fact that it is not updated for
Mac OSX. And Finale eps has been the way I've been compiling them for a
number of years now. (And as I've said before, I'm still using Finale 2003
and 2001 to do this).

I can place the music graphics, and when there are proof corrections to be
made I can easily re-export the eps files, under the same names, so
PageMaker will update them automatically.

I haven't tried using pdf files for this yet - maybe soon I shall have to.
But as far as I am concerned it's a giant step backwards.
