Native Instrument's software, including Kontakt and
the Kontakt Player will both work with Finale directly
via VST. This is new.

Companies other than Native Instruments use the
Kontakt Player as a means of allowing people to use
their sounds with VST enabled software. With these
packages, the Kontakt Player is customized to these
libraries and is included with them.

What this means is that if you go and purchase (for
example) East West's QL Symphony Orchestra in any of
its varieties, it comes with the player that allows it
to work with Finale directly. You do NOT have to
purchase the full Kontakt.

If you have a library that does not include Kontakt
Software, such as your old Akai libraries, you will
have to have Kontakt (or perhaps Kompakt as well?) to
load them, provided Kontakt can read the format of
your library.

I don't know all of the various packages on the list
on MakeMusic's website. Of the ones I do know, all
come with what is needed to be loaded into Finale
without purchasing something else. You should find
information on any particular library you are
interested in to verify that it comes with NI
software.
