Please, not a Mac/PC war.
Agreed. It benefits no one.
I think we can offer personal input without making it a war.
I use PCs a lot at my day job, but I've always preferred Macs for home.
A significant part of that is because Macs are what I'm used to.
If I had it to do over again, I think I might well choose PC.
Objectively, I think I'd still like Mac interface better, and I
definitely like that Macs are much less vulnerable to viruses and the
like, but I don't think those alone would be worth the ~20% more you pay
for a Mac. I'm frugal by nature, so price is a big factor for me.
But familiarity matters. Even if it was more or less by accident that I
got started on Macs, I now have a familiarity investment in them, and
that's sufficient reason for me to stick with them.
Lora mentioned that her place of work is Mac-dominated. I would
consider that a valid reason to consider switching. Or if it's just a
question of learning the Mac system for work while still keeping the
familiar Windows system at home, I think that's a good thing to do.
It's essentially what I do in my work, but vice versa.
I"ve always had PC's, because the price is better, because every job
I've had has used them, and because they've more presence in most areas.
But I've used Macs, and once you get used to the UI they're really not
all that different, or better, or worse.
I'd like a Mac, but mostly only if it were a screaming G5 (or better)
with 8 GB of RAM (my PC, and most I've seen, still max out at 2 GB) and
a 30" cinema display (just because ... wow!). But for vanilla computing
(including Finale and Photoshop), the differences are not really severe.
