After many years’ hiatus, I find myself getting back into the music biz, but I am unable to locate a faithful old friend, namely the Golden Age typeface created by Donald Rice.  I was unable to find much info on the web, and have so far received no response from Mr. Rice with the email addresses I have.

I had purchased the font (probably in 1996 or so) but I’m sure it was on a floppy – which was long ago lost.  I’ve updated computers several times in the interim of course.

Does anyone have any further info on this family of typefaces?  Specifically, I’d like to purchase the most recent revision somewhere.

FYI, if you’ve never seen Golden Age set music – it is the most easily readable music I’ve ever seen come out of Finale or any other music publishing software.  The closest I think you can come electronically to a good professional copyist (which Don Rice is.)

Hi Bob,

I used this font for years but it appears that it hasn't been updated for the new OS, esp. mac and I have problems with it now: spaces between words don't print or show on screen. So it has rendered it rather useless for me now. In addition, I have to either use OS9 to print these files or swop fonts.

I have tried in vain to contact Don Rice and/or find a solution but he seems to have disappeared and when I inquired on this list some time ago about the same subject that drew a blank also.

I suggest that you if you are set on using a hand written font and will be using it extensively, that you opt for one with proper support for the future.

Jonathan
