I was struggling with your score and didn't find this. Double-duh! I would have assumed that MM rests would be automatically created in parts.




On the optimization issue.  Christopher was largely right in suggesting that the optimization must be removed before it can be correctly set, but there's one more element.  (MM did suggest this, on the second communication about the problem.)  You must remove the optimization before resetting the group attributes to allow normal optimization.

Sorry for the mis-communication. I thought I had said that. (I MEANT to say it!)
