Johannes,

Granted, I was being a tad flip on my previous post, but the intent remains the same. I do feel your frustration about the upgrade$, especially considering the customs fees imposed on you.

As you may know, I've used Finale since v1, starting in late 1989. I have an enormous body of work that must be maintained in Finale. But I became extremely disenchanted with MM starting back when they simply removed the Cancel button from the 'Too Many Beats...' dialog, probably back in 2001. I don't really care to remember. Their response was so over-the-top-arrogant to my concerns, it pissed me off. Since that time, as you say, they have introduced their annual version with more and more bugs underneath more and more features. While also leaving many deficiencies standing. Every time I had to do any edits or work in the program, I stressed, cursed, and swore there had to be a better way. Sibelius finally gave it to me.

I still have a 20-year body of work to maintain, but I have done some cursory importing/exporting to Sibelius. And, while it is still time- consuming, it's doable on a file-by-file basis. Everyone has to decide based on their own terms. It's done wonders for my own disposition.

What amazes me, is that every year, people upgrade and then start the litany of complaints, bugginess, and frustration with MM and Finale. Yet some keep churning away in the same rut. That's fine. Just not for me.

I do realize from my view, that eventually, Finale 2007 (my current latest version), will no longer run efficiently on future Macs and versions of their OS. It's inevitable. You just took the plunge recently yourself. I will too one day. But Sibelius has given me an out. And now that v6 has addressed what I think was the programs most glaring deficiency, slurs, things look better. I'm no longer concerned.

I do hope you get things worked out to your satisfaction.

Time to seriously consider moving to Sibelius 6?
Couldn't resist.

Well. I certainly get the feeling that they actually fix things, whereas it seems with MakeMusic each version of Finale introuces more bugs. The worst ones seem to get fixed with the next payed upgrade, the rest never gets fixed at all.

A bug like this I simply expect to be fixed immediately. Ie within weeks rather than months.

I payed for the Finale 2k9 update only a few months ago. Lately I have not used Finale much, and I have only used 2k9 perhaps five times for very small jobs. Do I now have to get 2k10 to get this fixed? If that is the case Sibelius is becoming a very likely option. I am certainly not going to feed the folks at MM for their ridiculous bugs.
