So here is the next one after a complaint by myself. I must admit I find it unacceptable that a company openly admits that we pay for unfinished software, and that the upgrade costs are for bug fixes. Imagine I bought a car and the wiper wasn't working, would I expect to pay for it being fixed? And Acrobat functionality is in no way a small matter for me.

Furthermore, since only Finale shows this problem and no other application I own or know about, it seems to me to be rather a lame excuse to blame it on Adobe. Oh well.

The reply goes on to offer me a promotional upgrade price, which would be 99$. After my experience last year I will have to inquire how much the extra costs for customs etc will be. Last time it was substancial. I may well try and find out whether Sibelius is going to cost me the same. I really have had it with Finale. The software causes more problems than it ever solved. Perhaps switching now will save me from more grief.

Johannes,

I know this can be a frustrating issue when dealing with incompatible software. I can provide some background and detail on this situation for you and provide you with the options we have available to resolve this.

This incompatibility was initially introduced by an update that Adobe had released for Acrobat. Since many of our users had been using Acrobat with Finale, we chose to invest our development time for Finale 2010 into resolving this incompatibility issue from our end.

Upgrade costs for Finale are designed not only to introduce new features, but also to resolve defects and to keep our software compatible with other frequently used programs for the engraving community such as Adobe Acrobat.
