I had this same problem with a publisher's files and their templates which
used the Engraver Fonts. The older font version that fixed the problem was
v. 4.2 with a copyright date of 2003 and the .fan file associated itself
with FIN2001. Not sure why there is a discrepancy between the dates but this
has fixed all my issues with older files. Of course this doesn't help when
the newest fonts from MM use a copyright date of 1997 and there are no
version dates! Try looking at the fonts and the annotation files that came
with FIN2003 or even FIN2001. Fonts and font related issues have not been
MakeMusic's...well...strong point.

Hope this helps.
