I discovered that the hard way and had to remove and reinstall everything including the X116 files in OS X. I finally went back to xorg which I initially used and had this same problem with.

With Apple X11 Amarok refuses to start because it says libXfonts.dylib is 1.0 and it requires 1.0.2 or something like that. If it would be helpful I will remove xorg and reload X11 and get the specifics.

Curiously my iMac OS X 10.4.8 Install disks (2) nor my Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.6 developer disk have X11 on them. I needed Pacifist and the Apple X11 Update 2006 1.1.3 to install X11.

if you build against an X11 besides apple's, you can't go back to apple's, xorg and xfree86 are both newer than apple's x11 (you get a warning about that when installing xorg or xfree86)
