You would need to rebuild amarok and its dependencies after going back 
to Apple's X11. This would give us additional clues about where the bug 
is hiding.

Your original report was about xfree86 and the XDarwin that came with 
it; do you get the same crash at the same point for xorg? You could also 
keep your xorg installation and install Fink's "applex11tools" package 
which adds some Apple components to non-Apple X11 installations. You 
could then start your X11 from xorg using X11.app instead of XDarwin.app 
and look whether this leads to the same crash.

Most people who claimed that they didn't have X11 on their system disks 
eventually found it there. If you only install what you find inside the 
X11 update, you won't have a complete X11 installation.
