Fink builds everything from source! This is like Gentoo but not like the default of Debian. If it is as easy on Debian as it is on Fink to change compile time options, then I would say that Debian is just as good as Fink. A package manager that made it easier to change compile time options would be still better. I do not subscribe to the GNU meaning of free , but Open Source is a fantastic software development model.
