I believe they gave up. On the best day at the original assembly plant, the lines were not perfect on new cars. IMHO, adjustments that require a lot of loosening and some disassembly plus a little port-a-power work would have the fender, cowl and hood within acceptable specs. I would guess 3 days worth of one man work and no painting would be within the realms of what it needs. The second day would just be tweaking and final tightening. The third day would be loosening, some more tweaking and final assembly. I would be interested to see the whole passenger side of the car, including the door gaps. The fender looks like it was bolted on at an angle and tightened down without checking where it was at first. It does not scare me, yet. If you decide to try this yourself, email me direct and I will try to talk you through it after seeing more pictures. About the additional value due to an original 400 vs. a replacement 400... My opinion is that unless it is a very special engine/car combination, 2-4 thousand added dollars in sale price would be tops at this time. If prices continue to go up and more people start to notice the First Gen Firebirds, then it would be a bigger deal.
My 2 cents.

----- Original Message ----- From: "Joel DuBois" <[EMAIL PROTECTED] The problem with the fender is that it's an aftermarket piece that fits close to the hood in the front and at the cowl but in the middle, there is a large gap. I am afraid that it can't be adjusted but I am happy to pay if it can be done.
