My trunk stayed dry but the floor was in the back was soaking. It
will drain down the outside away from the trunk but between fender
and wheel well. Check to see if the area behind the rear wheel
(usually a spot for rust ) is dry. Easy way to check if the front
vents are clogged is to run water directly in the front cowling
grating. If it does not come out under the car, it is going
inside. GM vented their car this way at least thru the late 80's.
Air and water go the same path until the heavier water goes down
further and the air goes into the cabin. if the vacuum controlled
door you found is the problem the water will go in the that way.
Also, these windows leak like sieves during heavy rains with high
winds. Try driving one thru a high pressure car wash.

In mine, there was a door inside the heater box. You can't get to
it unless the whole thing comes out of the car and you really
don't want to do that. If that door is the purge door it should
not be the source of a water leak.

The best way to find the leak is with a water hose.
Remember when you get leaks after a storm the car was in for more
than a few minutes so be patient.
