Hello, Andy,
I was last able to start it 6 months ago. I bought the car fully restored, but
ever since I've had it it's seemed underpowered (from an electrical system
standpoint). I couldn't drive it at night because the headlights were too dim.
The way I describe it is that the electrical system always seems like it's
short on juice. I haven't done anything to the car, other than take the
alternator off and have it checked. The dome light is something new. The dome
light would always come on, even if I was having trouble starting it. WRT the
battery, it's a fairly new DieHard. I just charged it up and the charger says
it fully charged and didn't detect a fault.

I have a continuity tester and am getting started troubleshooting the system as
Chris instructed me. When you say measure the voltage across the cable clamps
and not just the posts, would I clip the tester to one cable and check the
other, or would I clip the tester to the frame or engine block? Thanks for
your help. Obviously this is something new for me and I'm learning how to work
this problem.

David

When were you last able to start the car? Have you changed anything
since then, or has it been a long time? How do you know that the battery
is fully charged? Have you tried a different battery or another car and
jumper cables?

Check the basics, first. Check that you can measure voltage across the
battery cable clamps, not just the posts, and that the posts and cables
are free of corrosion. Make sure that the negative goes to the block and
the passenger-side fender. Make sure the positive connects to the
starter and the terminal block on the radiator core support.
