Thanks again, Hugo and Michael!  I'll drive it down to Autozone after I install 
the battery.  Hugo, I was wondering if there's a right way and a wrong way to 
disconnect/reconnect a battery.  Now I know!

Places like Autozone and Kragen will test your alternator for free. 
Make use of this great service.
Also, if you don't use your car too often, its a good idea to 
disconnect one of the battery connections (the negative is the best 
one to do since you won't accidentally cause a short to ground and do 
some arc welding as you could with the positive. ALWAYS undo the 
negative side first when disconnecting a battery and then do the 
reverse (positive first) when connecting back up) if you are not 
going to use the car for a while. The other alternative is to buy a 
"float" charger to keep the battery topped off but not overcharged 
while in storage.
