We are not talking about tired brand names such as "Oldsmobile" or "Plymouth." Pontiac was once associated with speed, excitement and beautifully crafted cars. It can take it's place again in the future with the right management. They should not "scrap" the tradename and brand name "Pontiac" but rather continue the line with one or two cars until it rebuilds. They could continue with the Solstice, G6 and or Vibe until it rebounds. It is ludicrous to scrap the name when we all know any division of GM can or will in the future likely roll the same three aforementioned cars off of it's assembly line with a different trade name. BTW in Mainland China Chevrolets are sometimes brand named "Buick" along with the traditional Buick brand name. With the sales of Buicks being so high in China is highly unlikely Buick will be next on the chopping block.
