JIm,
I think it is all in how you take care of your vehicles.

I had a 1997 GMC Z71 that was THE WORST TRUCK EVER! It had just a hair over
100k miles, transmission blew once at 60k, rear end let go at 95K and when I
finally got rid of it at 110k miles the engine had a bad knock in it.

The steering box was shot, the suspension needed all new bushings, the paint
was horrible and the interior was falling apart.
Since then I have NEVER wanted another GM product made in the 90's or
2000's. I worked for a company who had a Toyota Tundra with a V8, now THAT
is a real truck, rides great with 4wd, it can tow more than my Z71 ever
thought about pulling with comfort, and it just kept on going. it is still
going strong with 250k miles on the clock

I've put over 215k miles on my Subaru WRX including track days, auto X
events, Rally X, you name it I have done it. These cars have
a supposedly weak transmission in them, mine let go at 165k miles after a
huge life of abuse. My motor went about the same time because something got
into the cold side of the turbo and I had nice turbo bits floating around in
my motor.

Easiest rebuild I have ever done!

I like old American iron, but for new vehicles, I will look else where than
GM.
