Speaking of the longevity of GM vehicles; my '68 350 2bbl Firebird had 166K
on it last year when I had the body restored. While the sheet metal was all
removed, I decided to pull the engine and the ST 300 transmission and
rebuild them. The only time that engine had been opened at all in the 30+
years that I have owned the car was to have the plastic timing gears
replaced at about 80K miles. The engine was still running strong and not
using any oil at the time of the rebuild. This 350 is one tough engine.
