You could temporarily put a couple layers of duct tape on the door to protect the paint, but I've put lots of those switches in like that. Otherwise, you should be able to adjust them with just a channel-lock plier or ?

Can I try it on your door first? Lol. I don't know about that. I put one on my D-side door and it indented the contact point on the door. The gap on the P-door is smaller and if it does't give/adjust like you're saying, I could end up with a lame repair on a freshly painted door jamb. I'll take a good look at this. I think I'd rather try adjusting it in a vice or some kind of press.
