Just thought I'd report back on this. The barrels don't collapse well. I tried collapsing them by using a vice. The barrel started to mushroom down at the bottom near the nut but the barrel got crooked real quick. Also, by collapsing it, the inner spring becomes exposed and rubs on the lip of the barrel making noise. I don't think mine are a self-adjusting type.
