The original poster only said "lastest version" which happens to be
1.2.1 and "does not install". What should we say to that? Its not
enough information to give any specific advice, so I thought sending
them to Firefox support was the best choice.

Firebug has been available for FF3 since 3.0 alpha releases.

If you search for "firebug" on google the top hit is a link to a
version that will install in FF3.
