I don't understand why you say this. Firebug consists of a zip file
with some special files for Firefox to read during install. Before the
install and during the upgrade there is no Firebug code running: no
code we change can alter the result. The only place we can affect the
result is in those special files (install.rdf chrome.manifest).
Its possible that our values in install.rdf and chrome.manifest are
incorrect. But since many thousands of users have been successful (or
chose not to complain?), a more likely explanation is that your
environment -- OS, other extensions, settings in Firefox, etc -- have
altered how Firefox operates on the zip file.

I doubt this will fix your problem, but could be. Here is a suggestion
that I have made to many users and they have found that is works for
them most of the time: install Firebug in a new Firefox profile. The
Firefox profile is a directory (folder) of configuration information.
By creating a new one, all unusual problems of configuration are
reset. Note that even uninstall/reinstall of Firefox does not clear
the profile and hence all configuration problems of Firefox remain.
