Dave, Thanks for your patience, but there is clearly something broken in the new stand alone FBTrace extension.
I suggest you start with a new Firefox profile and the last integrated Firebug + FBTrace, 1.7X.0b4 http://getfirebug.com/releases/firebug/1.7X/ If you can trace the missing bytes then we can look into the main problem.
