IMHO, if you can download the 100% of the 'free' SOURCE, you already have 100% of the 'free' 'documentation'? What more can you 'want' from the author?
My problem with FlightGear, SimGear, TerraGear, and FGSD is that the USER documentation is inadequate, unless you happen to be a C++ programmer - which I'm not.
My programmers were always told: "Your program does not exist until the user documentation exists too". They can demure, and find another job. In the Open Source community we don't fire people, we help them WRITE the documentation, or we find another program which has been adequately documented. This is the first time I'm ever felt so cross that I wanted to flame someone- I just hope I misunderstood him.
Come on, don't be that harsh to each other.
I admit FlightGear could use proper documentation and there are efforts to get it (check the Docs directory in the base package). But unfortunately Freeware is ofter written in developers spare time. Most (all) developers do have a job next to developing FlightGear unlike "your" developers who get paid to create the documentation.
So it's either "stop adding useful and/or fun features and start working on the docs", or "continue your useful work and I'll find my way to get the info. Maybe I'll ask on the proper mailing list".
I agree that TerraGear isn't for the faint of heart, but since it isn't used often that is probably not much of a problem. As a user I don't see why one would want user documentation for Simgear either.
