Oh hell, no! I didn't mean to imply any criticism of the code. I'm not
qualified to comment...[1] I bought "Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days", but
more than 21 days ago. I still can't do much more than hazily understand
other people's code :�) Your explanation of what does what is just the
ticket. I'll experiment.

[1] In the Real World (tm) my job title is Systems Architect, but it always
sounded a bit portentous, and now that I've seen The Matrix: Revolutions I
think I'll get it changed!
